Company Key Request

Your registered business name may differ from the name you use publicly to operate your business. If you are a corporation, your legal name can be found in your Articles of Incorporation. For partnerships or sole proprietorships, the legal name is listed on your registration certificate. It is important to enter your registered business name exactly as it appears in your official legal documents.

You will have an Ontario Corporation Number (OCN) only if your business is registered as a corporation. Partnerships and sole proprietorships do not receive an OCN. When you incorporate your business, an OCN is automatically issued, and you can find it in your Articles of Incorporation.

Your Business Identification Number (BIN) is a 9-digit number assigned by the Ontario government. You will have a BIN only if your business is registered as a partnership or sole proprietorship, as corporations do not receive one. You can find your BIN on your business registration certificate.

NOTE: Your BIN is different from your Business Number (BN9). Your BN9 is assigned to you by the Canada Revenue Agency.

If your corporation needs a company key, ServiceOntario requires a compliance update to keep your business records current. This includes confirming your address and official email through a notice of change. The $149 fee covers updates to your registered email, business address, or primary business activity details.

Notes: This may refer to an individual or an authorized intermediary such as a legal professional, Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), or a member of the Ontario Association of Professional Searchers of Records who was engaged to conduct transactions on behalf of your company.
